WOUP FAQ
Q: I would like to host an event screening of "whaledreamers" but cannot do so over the weekend of October 24-26. Is it possible to show the film any other dates?
A: Yes, you may show the film any dates moving forward from October 26th but not before, however, we encourage you to register soon to be included in ongoing national advertising and marketing in conjunction with the Weekend of Unity & Peace.
Q: How can I tell if there is a screening in my city or neighborhood?
A: Please visit “Event Locations” on this website for a detailed state-by-state list.
Q: You have requested that we view and return the sample "whaledreamers" DVD within two weeks of receipt, however, we will require more time, is this acceptable?
A: Yes, you may have additional time to review the DVD, however, please send an email to marketing@montereymedia.com and inform us that you are interested but still viewing and considering the film. For your convenience, the DVD was sent to you with a self-addressed, postage paid envelope to return it after your initial review. Please note that should you register to host an event screening of the film, we will send you a Host Screening Package two weeks prior to your event.
Q: We are a small group and are not confident we can pull together 50+ people in order to satisfy your minimum requirement of $250. Is there an exception to this requirement?
A: To make it worth your while (and to satisfy filmmaker contractual obligations on our end) the $250 minimum is required. In the spirit of Unity, we encourage you to join with another local church, mediation group, spiritual center (etc) to jointly hold a screening of the film. This perhaps might help offset some of the costs involved and is also a great way to pull that many more people into your event. For other ideas, see the next question.
Q: What are ways we can make our film screening event more than just a film screening?
A: Other WOUP Hosts report that they are having success by reaching out to all in their community to get involved and make the Weekend something that everyone can participate in. This includes inviting local vendors to sell goods at the event (organic bake sale, hand-made items, distribute samples etc), inviting a speaker to talk at the screening (local professor, Minister, etc), reaching out to include community members from local meditation centers, yoga studios, and centers. They also report using their local groups for help in organizing and outreaching the event.
We at monterey media also have provided a number of useful, downloadable tools under “Hosting Resources” on this website that will help your outreach.
Q: Is the filmmaker Kim Kindersley (or any others from the film) going to be available to speak at our event?
A: While it would certainly be nice if Kim could be at all events where his presence is desired, a Weekend of Unity & Peace is only taking place over a short period.
Thank you again for your participation-
